Checked on 2026-10-07: vibeisland.app and its Claude Code page. Which agents Vibe Island can approve, rather than only watch, is from vibecoding.app's review of 29 August 2026. We'll correct anything its developer tells us is out of date. FavTray details reflect version 2.0.8.

The verdict

Pick Vibe Island if you run many different agents and want a jump to the exact terminal pane, plan review or remote sessions. It's built for agents, lists 30 of them, and sets up Claude Code on first launch.

Pick FavTray if you mostly run Claude Code (and watch Codex) and want approvals, questions, AI limits, CI results, ports and meetings in one island. The glance (media, weather, AI usage bars) is free on every install; Agent Sessions and notch cards come with FavTray Pro, and the 7-day trial includes them.

Frequently asked questions

Is Vibe Island free?

No. Vibe Island costs $19.99 once for one Mac, including a year of updates, and keeps working after that year. There's a 2-day free trial with no card. Free alternatives include coucou, CodeIsland, Open Vibe Island and Vibe Notch.

Is Vibe Island the same as Vibe Notch or Open Vibe Island?

No, they're three separate projects with similar names. Vibe Island is the paid app at vibeisland.app. Vibe Notch, formerly Claude Island, is a free Claude Code notch app under the Apache-2.0 licence (github.com/farouqaldori/vibe-notch). Open Vibe Island is a free project under GPL-3.0 (github.com/Octane0411/open-vibe-island).

Can Vibe Island approve Codex or Gemini CLI?

Not according to a review published on 29 August 2026, which found two-way approvals and answers work for Claude Code, OpenCode and MiMoCode, and that its other agents, Codex and Gemini CLI included, are watch-only. FavTray is narrower: it approves Claude Code only and watches Codex sessions (project, branch, status and model).

Does FavTray jump to the terminal like Vibe Island?

No. FavTray had a Go to Terminal button until version 1.11.0 and removed it rather than guess which terminal window you meant; you answer in place on the Agents page instead. If jumping back matters to you, Vibe Island goes to the exact tab and split pane in 20+ terminals and editors, including iTerm2, Ghostty, Warp, Terminal.app, WezTerm, Kitty, Zellij, VS Code and Cursor.

What happens if I don't answer a request?

In FavTray, nothing is decided for you. An approval waits 55 seconds in the notch, then Claude Code shows its own prompt in the terminal; a question waits 30 seconds. FavTray never approves or denies on a timeout. Vibe Island's site doesn't say what happens to a request you don't answer.

Which should I pick?

Vibe Island, if you run many different agents and want to jump to the exact terminal pane, review plans or watch remote sessions. FavTray, if you mostly run Claude Code, watch Codex, and want approvals, questions, AI limits, CI results, ports and meetings in one island. FavTray's glance is free; Agent Sessions needs Pro, and the 7-day trial includes it.
