Remove FavTray completely
Last updated: 1 October 2026
Moving FavTray to the Trash removes the app, but its settings and files stay in your user Library, so a reinstall picks up where you left off. To remove everything, follow the steps below. None of them needs an administrator password.
1. Before you delete the app
These undo the changes FavTray made to other tools. They are easiest while FavTray is still installed.
- Claude Code hooks: Settings › Claude Code → turn off Show Claude Code in the island. FavTray removes its hooks from
~/.claude/settings.jsonand leaves your other hooks and settings alone. From FavTray 2.0.8 you can turn it off after FavTray Pro or the trial has ended. On earlier versions the switch is locked then, so use step 5 instead. - FavTray Skill: Settings › Skills → Remove. This deletes
favtray-skillfrom~/.claude/skillsand~/.codex/skills. - Menu bar spacing: if you changed it, Menu Bar › Spacing → Reset.
- Open at login: Settings › General → turn off Open at login.
- Licence: moving to another Mac? Settings › FavTray Pro → Deactivate this Mac frees the seat.
- Your email on our server (optional): Settings › FavTray Pro → Delete my account and email, or at favtray.com/account. See what's deleted and kept.
2. Quit and delete the app
Quit FavTray from its menu, then drag FavTray from your Applications folder to the Trash.
3. Delete FavTray's files
FavTray keeps its data in these places:
~/.config/FavTray— Notes, Projects, Artifacts, reminder history, AI usage history and system metrics. Back it up first if you want to keep your notes and projects.~/Library/Application Support/FavTray— The list of saved Claude Code and Codex logins (the logins themselves are in the Keychain), screenshot history, Space history, the Claude Code bridge script, your sound pack, Max's downloaded model, imports, project backups and the Free-tier record~/Library/Application Support/com.favtray.app— Downloaded updates~/Library/Caches/FavTray— The AI cost cache~/Library/Caches/com.favtray.app— macOS's web cache for FavTray's requests~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.favtray.app and com.favtray.app.binarycookies— macOS's web storage and cookies for FavTray~/Library/Logs/FavTray— FavTray's logs (updates, hangs and the relaunch helper)~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.favtray.relauncher.plist— A one-shot helper that reopens FavTray after a permission change. It should delete itself; remove it if it's there.~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.favtray.widget and ~/Library/Containers/com.favtray.app.widgets— The widget's containers, if macOS created them~/.claude/settings.json.favtray-backup— A copy of your Claude Code settings from just before FavTray last added its hooks. It can contain tokens from your settings' env block, so delete it once you no longer need it.~/Library/Preferences/com.favtray.app.plist— Settings. Remove it with the defaults command below rather than deleting the file.
To remove them all at once, paste this into Terminal. It only touches FavTray's own files. It deletes your Notes and Projects, so copy ~/.config/FavTray somewhere first if you want them.
rm -rf ~/.config/FavTray \
~/Library/Application\ Support/FavTray \
~/Library/Application\ Support/com.favtray.app \
~/Library/Caches/FavTray \
~/Library/Caches/com.favtray.app \
~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.favtray.app \
~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.favtray.app.binarycookies \
~/Library/Logs/FavTray \
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.favtray.relauncher.plist \
~/Library/Group\ Containers/group.com.favtray.widget \
~/Library/Containers/com.favtray.app.widgets \
~/.claude/settings.json.favtray-backup
defaults delete com.favtray.app If macOS says Operation not permitted for a container folder, delete that folder in Finder instead.
4. Reset the menu bar spacing
If you changed the menu bar spacing and FavTray is already gone, run this. It puts back macOS's default spacing for every app; menu bar apps pick it up the next time they open, or after you log out and back in. If you never changed the spacing, macOS just says the setting doesn't exist.
defaults -currentHost delete -globalDomain NSStatusItemSpacing
defaults -currentHost delete -globalDomain NSStatusItemSelectionPadding 5. Remove the Claude Code hooks by hand
Only if you deleted FavTray before turning the hooks off. Open ~/.claude/settings.json and, under "hooks", delete each entry whose "command" contains claude-bridge.sh (FavTray adds them for PermissionRequest, Stop, Notification and PreToolUse). Leave everything else as it is. Then delete ~/.claude/skills/favtray-skill and ~/.codex/skills/favtray-skill if they're still there. Installs from before FavTray 1.4 used the name boardsmith: delete ~/.claude/skills/boardsmith or ~/.codex/skills/boardsmith only if it has a .favtray-install.json file inside, which marks FavTray's copy.
6. Keychain items
Open Keychain Access, search for favtray, and delete the items named com.favtray.keychain, com.favtray.keychain.v2 or com.favtray.keychain.v3, or starting with favtray-. They hold your licence key, the keys and tokens you gave FavTray, and any logins saved for Switch account. Don't delete Claude Code-credentials: that is Claude Code's own login, not FavTray's. If an Add account was cut short, Claude Code may have left an item named Claude Code-credentials- followed by 8 letters and numbers. You can delete those, unless you run Claude Code with your own CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, which creates items with the same kind of name.
7. Permissions and login items (optional)
To clear the permissions you gave FavTray (Accessibility, Screen Recording, Calendar and the rest), run:
tccutil reset All com.favtray.app If FavTray still shows in System Settings › General › Login Items, remove it there.
What stays
Screenshots you saved and files you exported are yours, wherever you put them; uninstalling doesn't touch them. Temporary files FavTray left in /tmp are cleared when you restart your Mac. Your licence and purchase records stay on our server so the licence keeps working if you reinstall; the privacy policy explains what we keep and why.
