Why keep a dashboard on your Mac?

Some dashboards are for showing people. Others are just for you: this week's AI spend, your holdings, a side project's numbers, the sprint you're in. Those are the ones worth keeping close.

• Personal. It's a file on your Mac, next to your other FavTray tools. No FavTray server stores it, and there's no account.
• Any time. It opens from the menu bar in a moment, with or without a network connection.
• Current. Your agent rewrites it with fresh numbers whenever you ask, and FavTray keeps one copy, not a pile of versions.
• Yours to arrange. Move and resize blocks, hide columns, switch a bar chart to a donut. Edits save to the file.

How do I save a Claude Code dashboard into FavTray?

1. Install the FavTray Skill. In FavTray, open Settings › Skills and click Install. FavTray copies the skill into Claude Code's and Codex's skills folders. The skill is part of paid Pro.
2. Ask your agent. In Claude Code or Codex, point at the data (a CSV, a JSON response, a log, notes) and say "make this an artifact in FavTray". Add a stable key if you'll refresh it: "use sourceKey ai-spend:weekly".
3. The skill writes one file. It picks the blocks (stat cards, a table, charts), writes one favtray-artifact/1 JSON file, validates it, and puts it in FavTray's Import inbox.
4. Click Import. FavTray shows a banner in Artifacts. Click Import and the dashboard opens, drawn natively. From now on it's a file on your Mac.

You can also start with a blank canvas: New artifact in FavTray, then Add block for text and data blocks.

How does it stay up to date?

Each time your agent runs, not on a timer. Here's the loop:

1. The first time, ask for a sourceKey, a stable name such as holdings:broker or ai-spend:weekly.
2. Next time, say "refresh my ai-spend artifact" with the new data. The skill writes the file again with the same key.
3. Click Import. FavTray replaces the artifact with that key, keeping its id, its file and its place in your gallery.

The Artifacts folder is also watched, so if an artifact's JSON file changes on disk, FavTray redraws it without a relaunch. FavTray doesn't connect to your data sources itself; the fresh data always comes from your agent run.

What can I do with it once it's in FavTray?

• Edit without a prompt: drag a block by its grip, resize it from 1 to 12 columns, rename titles, show or hide table columns, switch chart kind, duplicate, delete or add blocks.
• Filter with heading chips: pick Stocks or ETFs, or one provider, and the table, its totals and every chart that reads it follow.
• Hover any chart for exact values, or focus it and step through with the arrow keys.
• Tick checklist items; the tick is saved to the file.
• Share a copy with Share › Export HTML…: one self-contained file that opens in any browser.

Which dashboards are worth keeping in FavTray?

• Weekly AI spend. Spend by provider and model, limits as progress bars, a stacked bar by day. Refresh it every Monday.
• Portfolio holdings. A broker export as a table with gains and losses coloured by sign, a treemap of weights, a chip to filter stocks from ETFs.
• Launch or side-project numbers. Downloads, sign-ups and revenue as stat cards with sparklines, a traffic line and a funnel.
• Sprint or project status. Status pills, progress rings, a burndown line and the next milestones.
• Meeting and research notes. Decisions, a quote, links and a checklist of actions with owners, which you tick off in FavTray.
• Disk, cloud or usage reports. A two-level treemap in bytes, a cost table, a list of what to check next.

Can I bring over a dashboard I already made in Claude?

Yes, by its data. FavTray draws its own JSON format, so give Claude Code or Codex the same data, or paste the artifact's code, and ask it to "make this an artifact in FavTray".
