How do I make an artifact with Claude Code or Codex?

Install the FavTray Skill
In FavTray, open Settings › Skills and click Install. FavTray copies the skill into Claude Code's and Codex's skills folders and nothing runs. It checks for skill updates once a day after that. The skill needs a paid Pro license.

Ask for an artifact
In Claude Code or Codex, paste your data or point at a file and say "make this an artifact in FavTray". A CSV export, a JSON API response, meeting notes or a plan all work.

The skill writes and checks one JSON file
The skill picks the blocks (stat cards, tables, charts, checklists), writes one favtray-artifact/1 JSON file, runs its validator until the file passes, and drops it into FavTray's Import inbox.

Click Import in FavTray
Artifacts shows an Import banner with what arrived. Nothing lands until you click Import.

Open, arrange and share
The artifact opens as a canvas on a 12-column grid. Click Edit to drag, resize and rename blocks, or Share › Export HTML… to save one self-contained file.

What can you do with an artifact?
Import from Claude Code or Codex
The FavTray Skill writes the JSON and puts it in the Import inbox. FavTray shows a banner and adds the artifact when you click Import. If an artifact with the same sourceKey is already in FavTray, Import replaces it in place (same id, same file) instead of adding a copy.
Start a blank one
New artifact in the gallery gives you an empty canvas. Add block has Text blocks (heading, text, callout, quote, list, checklist, code, divider) and Data blocks (stats, progress, table, chart, timeline, key–value).
Edit mode
Drag a block by its grip onto another to move it. Drag its right edge, or use − and +, to change its width from 1 to 12 columns. Rename the artifact and block titles inline, show or hide table columns from Columns, switch a chart's kind, duplicate or delete a block.
Chip filters
A heading chip can be a dropdown that filters a table: pick Stocks or ETFs, a sprint, a provider. The table's rows, an "auto" totals row, the charts that read that table and the {count} in the heading all follow. The pick is view state only; nothing is written to the file.
Hover and keyboard
Every chart has a read-out: a crosshair with every series value on line and area charts, the value and share on bars, the slice in a donut's centre, an outline on treemap tiles. Focus a chart and the arrow keys step through the same read-out.
Export HTML
Share › Export HTML… saves one self-contained file that needs no network. Its renderer follows the app's rules: number formats, palette, folding into Other, chip filters, sorting, search and hover. Share also has Copy JSON and Reveal JSON in Finder.
Updates with sourceKey
Give an artifact a stable sourceKey, such as holdings:broker or ai-usage:weekly, and ask for it again next week. Import replaces the old one in place, so your gallery keeps one current copy.
Live file
Each artifact is one file in ~/.config/FavTray/Artifacts. The folder is watched, so a file rewritten in place re-renders. Your edits save after a short pause. Delete moves the file to the Trash, so Put Back works.
Which blocks and charts are there?
Fifteen block types, each placed with a width of 1 to 12 columns. Blocks flow left to right and wrap, so two 6-column blocks sit side by side.

Cells and values take number, currency (any ISO code), percent, compact (1.2K, 3.4M, or lakh and crore for en-IN), duration, bytes, date and text, and table cells add status pills, badges, links, sparklines, progress bars and check marks. Past eight categories, a pie or treemap folds the tail into one grey "Other · N" slice. Green and red are kept for gains and losses.
What people turn into artifacts
Portfolio holdings
A broker's holdings export becomes a table with profit and loss coloured by sign, a totals row, a treemap of weights and a chip that filters stocks from ETFs. Rerun it with the same sourceKey to refresh.
Launch dashboard
Downloads, sign-ups and spend as stat cards with sparklines, a traffic line on a date axis, a funnel from visit to purchase, and a launch checklist.
AI cost report
Spend per provider with weekly-limit progress bars and threshold colours, spend by day as a stacked bar, spend by model as a donut that folds the tail into Other.
Sprint status
A table with status pills and tags, progress rings for scope, a burndown line and a timeline of the sprint's milestones.
Disk report
A two-level treemap of what takes space, a table in bytes, and a list of what to check next.
Meeting summary
Attendees as key–value pairs, decisions as text, a quote, and action items as a checklist with owners and due dates.
Comparison
A table with check marks, prices and links, and a scatter of price against features read from the same table.
Runbook
Numbered steps, code blocks with Copy, warning callouts and a checklist you tick as you go.

A calendar heatmap of days done, streak stats and progress toward this month's goal.

Yes. Click Edit on the canvas to move, resize, rename, duplicate or delete blocks, hide table columns and switch chart kinds. Add block adds text and data blocks. You can also edit the JSON file in any editor; FavTray re-renders it when the file changes.
How do I update an artifact with new data?
Give it a sourceKey, such as holdings:broker, and ask Claude Code or Codex to make it again. When the new file is imported, FavTray replaces the artifact with that sourceKey in place instead of adding a copy.
Can I share an artifact?
Yes. Share › Export HTML… saves one self-contained HTML file that opens in any browser with no network, with the same formats, hover read-outs, sorting and chip filters. Share also has Copy JSON.
Where are artifacts stored?
In ~/.config/FavTray/Artifacts, one JSON file per artifact. FavTray keeps keys it doesn't know when it saves, so a file written by a newer skill isn't damaged by an older app. Deleting an artifact moves the file to the Trash.
Does my data leave my Mac?
No FavTray server stores your artifacts. The files are local. Whatever you send to Claude Code or Codex to build the artifact goes to that tool's provider, as it would for any other prompt.
